Double Horn in F and Bb
The Double Horn is the most common and most versatile French horn. It is easily defined by the trigger placed near the thumb. This trigger allows the F Horn to become the Bb Horn by transferring the air to another set of tubing on the "Bb side" of the horn. This shorter tubing allows the player to produce higher notes easier, transposing the horn pitch up a perfect 4th. The trigger typically is engaged with all notes after 2nd line G (see FINGERING CHART)
This diagram labels the trigger as "4th lever." The two horns pictured are both double horns, but use different methods of "wrapping" the tubes. The Kruspe wrap and Geyer wrap horns are preferred by players and create slightly different tones.
